In 1862, Daniel Swarovski was born in Bohemia to a family that owned a crystal-cutting company. In 1883, Daniel formed a jewellery company that had over 70 employees and supplied jewellery for Queen Victoria. In 1891, Daniel registered a patent for a crystal-cutting machine that he created. By 1895 Daniel had left Bohemia to Wattens, Austria where he would begin Crystal production.
Throughout their history the Swarovski Company and Daniel had adapted to every trend even creating a few themselves. An example would be the crystal-embellished fabric headband created in the 1920s as women’s hairstyles were being worn shorter.
By the end of World War 2, the company had founded Swarovski Optik, creating lenses, binoculars and telescopes. However, as the years followed from World War 2, Fashion began to boom. During this period of time Daniel Swarovski collaborated with designers like Christian Dior, even bedazzling Marilyn Monroe’s dress during her famous birthday song to John F Kennedy.
In 2000, Swarovski introduced the pearl with a crystal core, providing the shine of a natural pearl, combined with the quality of a Swarovski Crystal. Swarovski continues to partner with fashion designers and architects to create innovative and new designs.
